An exotic heirloom squash from Guatemala, with four pound, pumpkin-like fruits that are striped green and yellow.

When mature the fruits can be used for baking and when young can be cooked like a summer squash. 

They also make for great decorations. 

Very uncommon: In many area is almost extinct.


·         Sow mid spring in 9 cm pot, 5 mm deep,  use good compost under heated glass or in a propagator.

·         Germination usually takes 3-12 days at 20-24C (70-75F).

·         Grow on in cooler though warm, well lit conditions, and keep well fed.

·         Gradually acclimatize to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost.

·         Plant out 4-6ft apart when weather is warm in a warm sheltered spot in full sun and rich soil.  Resist the temptation to plant out too early, as they need warmth to thrive.
